The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has downplayed efforts by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to mend their fractured political relationship, stating that the governor lacks the influence to foster genuine peace.
Speaking during a press conference on Monday, Wike disclosed that Fubara recently visited him in the company of two governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to seek reconciliation. However, Wike expressed scepticism about the sincerity and effectiveness of the visit.
“I told him frankly, I don’t believe he has what it takes to make peace,” Wike said. “You can’t say you want peace when your supporters are staging protests and attacking others on television.”
Despite Fubara’s public call on Sunday urging his followers to refrain from actions that could sabotage the peace process, Wike argued that the governor’s inability to restrain his loyalists undermines any talks of reconciliation.
