Immigration officer abducted in Makurdi as gunmen storm residence

Must read

Suspected kidnappers have abducted an official of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Benue State Command, Simon Agbo, from his residence in Makurdi, the state capital.

According to a family source who spoke to the media on Monday, Agbo was seized around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday while interacting with neighbors outside his home near NKST Church, Kuan, behind Modern Market.

The attackers, reportedly armed, fired several gunshots into the air to disperse people before dragging the officer away.

Agbo had been transferred from Kwara to Benue in February and had only recently resumed duty in the state.

Community youths and vigilante groups began a search the same night, but the kidnappers evaded arrest.

His younger brother revealed that a neighbor, who had repeatedly insisted on meeting Agbo that evening, was arrested for suspicious behavior.

The suspect is currently in police custody, while the abductors have reached out to the family, demanding N20 million for Agbo’s release.

Efforts to obtain comments from the NIS and state police authorities were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
