86 Nigerian Army captains begin promotion exam today

A total of 86 captains from the Nigerian Army are set to begin the 2025 Written Promotion Examination today (Monday) in Benin, Edo State. The week-long exam, running from May 12 to May 16, is being hosted by the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport.

At the opening session on Sunday, Maj. Gen. Kevin Aligbe, the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command and President of the Examination Board, congratulated the candidates for reaching this important stage in their military careers.

Aligbe described the examination as a crucial step toward advancing in the Army and encouraged participants to maintain the highest levels of professionalism and discipline throughout the process.

“This exam is an integral part of the Nigerian Army’s promotion structure, aimed at fostering a professional, disciplined, and merit-based officer corps, in alignment with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision for a capable and responsive force,” he said.

He emphasized that this exam is vital for promotion to the rank of Major and reminded the candidates that they have a maximum of three attempts to pass.

Aligbe also warned against any form of malpractice, stating that candidates found cheating or violating exam rules would face immediate disqualification and disciplinary measures.

To motivate excellence, he revealed that awards, commendation letters, and cash prizes would be given to the top three candidates in the exam.

“We want all of you to succeed, and the marking will be done transparently and fairly,” he added.

Maj. Gen. Adebayo Adegbite, Commandant of NASST, welcomed the candidates and stressed that the exam marks a significant moment in their professional growth.

“You’ve undergone a rigorous one-month preparatory course, and the mock exam has already assessed your readiness. We expect strong performances from all of you,” he said.

Adegbite also advised the participants to remain cautious of the security situation in Benin, suggesting they limit unnecessary movements, travel in pairs, and stay vigilant during their time there.
