Ahmad Lawan denies involvement in detention of critic over water project

Must read

Senator Ahmad Lawan has strongly denied claims that he was involved in the arrest of a constituent, Ishe’u Ibrahim Jadda, who was reportedly detained after criticizing the Gashua Water Supply Project in Yobe North Senatorial District.

The former Senate President described the report, which was circulated by an online news platform, as entirely unfounded and a deliberate attempt to damage his character.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, Lawan dismissed the allegations as false and malicious.

According to the statement, the senator remains committed to democratic ideals, including the protection of free speech and the right to critique public office holders.

“It is completely untrue that Senator Ahmad Lawan would ever use his influence or position to silence any citizen for expressing their opinion. Suggesting otherwise is a gross misrepresentation of his values and decades of service,” the statement read.

The lawmaker also addressed the concerns raised about the Gashua Water Supply Project, stating that it was launched to tackle serious health challenges in the area.

He pointed out that Gashua has experienced a high number of kidney-related illnesses linked to the consumption of unsafe water, which prompted the need for the intervention.

While reiterating his openness to constructive criticism, Lawan challenged the media platform behind the report to provide credible evidence to support its allegations.

He affirmed his dedication to delivering meaningful representation to the people of Yobe North and vowed not to be distracted by false accusations.
