Two-year-old sold for 100k rescued in Abia

A two-year-old girl who was allegedly trafficked from Abuja and sold in Aba, Abia State, has been rescued by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

In a statement posted on the agency’s official Facebook page on Friday, NAPTIP disclosed that the toddler—given the alias Chiamaka Favor—was recovered on May 8, 2025, by its Abia State Command.

The child was reportedly taken to Aba in February and sold for ₦100,000.

The arrest of the suspected trafficker was made by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abia State before the suspect was handed over to NAPTIP.

The agency noted that the individual is believed to have worked with three separate trafficking groups based in Abuja.

“Preliminary findings suggest the suspect collaborated with multiple trafficking syndicates and sold the child to a buyer for one hundred thousand naira. Further investigations are currently in progress,” the agency stated.

NAPTIP is now calling on members of the public to help identify and reunite the girl with her biological family. “We urge the child’s parents or any relatives to contact NAPTIP without delay,” the agency appealed.

This incident follows a similar rescue operation in April, where NAPTIP, alongside the Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, retrieved eight children who had been deceived and transported from their homes to cities including Aba, Onitsha, and locations in Imo State.
