Labour Party faction plans convention to expel Peter Obi, Gov Otti

Must read

Abayomi Arabambi, a key figure in a faction of the Labour Party (LP), has disclosed plans to expel prominent members, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti.

The move, he said, will be formalised during an upcoming National Convention of the party.

Speaking during an interview on TVC, Arabambi, who identifies as the LP’s Publicity Secretary, accused Obi and Otti of fueling internal divisions and pursuing selfish political interests.

“These individuals are only interested in their personal gains. We won’t allow them to derail the Labour Party,” he stated.

Arabambi also maintained that Julius Abure remains the legitimate National Chairman, insisting the Supreme Court had not ruled against him despite contrary claims from other factions.

When questioned on how peace could return to the party, Arabambi was resolute: “The National Convention will provide the answer. Peter Obi, Governor Otti, and others who are already suspended will be expelled without delay.”

He dismissed corruption allegations against Abure made by another group within the party, calling the accusations laughable and baseless.

Arabambi took aim at Nenadi Usman, the factional leader behind the allegations, describing her as an outsider who lacks the authority to make such claims.

“She coordinated Obi’s Obidient movement and isn’t even a registered member of the Labour Party. How can someone who isn’t part of us issue disciplinary threats?” he argued, labelling her “Headmistress of Corruption” and accusing her of negotiating a plea bargain over her own legal issues.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that it has not yet endorsed any change in the Labour Party’s national leadership.

The commission noted it is still reviewing court rulings, including a recent Supreme Court judgment that overturned an appellate court’s affirmation of Abure’s chairmanship.
