El-Rufai, Peter Obi meet in U.S. conference amid political tensions

Must read

Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s flagbearer in the 2023 presidential race, recently encountered each other at the University of Cambridge in the United States.

The meeting occurred during the 11th edition of the Cambridge Africa Together Conference, hosted at St. John’s College.

El-Rufai featured as a speaker at the international gathering, which attracts policymakers, intellectuals, and influencers from across the African continent.

Despite coming from opposing sides of Nigeria’s political landscape, both men shared space at the global forum.

Obi contested the last election under the Labour Party banner, while El-Rufai, who has since exited the APC, is now aligned with the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

His recent political ties suggest a growing relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, who has announced plans to unite opposition forces for the 2027 general elections.
