The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, has ordered the suspension of two family heads (Mogajis) over allegations of land grabbing and other misconduct.
Those affected by the suspension include Mogaji Kamorudeen Kolawole of the Kukula family, Oke-Ofa Baba Isale in Ibadan North East LGA, and Mogaji Samsudeen Bello of the Ekerin Ajengbe family, Isale Osi in Ibadan South West LGA.
The suspension, which includes the withdrawal of their traditional beads, took effect immediately following a meeting of the Olubadan Land Matters Committee held Thursday at the Old Olubadan Palace in Oja Oba, Ibadan.
A statement released Friday by the monarch’s Chief Press Secretary, Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade, confirmed the disciplinary action.
Speaking on behalf of the Olubadan, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rasidi Ladoja, stated that the suspension would remain in place indefinitely unless the two Mogajis correct their conduct.
“You have repeatedly been warned against engaging in acts such as land grabbing, trespassing, or any behavior that could damage the integrity of the Olubadan stool and Ibadanland. This suspension stands until you take the necessary corrective steps,” the monarch said.
The Olubadan also directed the affected individuals to immediately stop presenting themselves as traditional title holders, warning that security agencies have been instructed to arrest anyone defying the order.
Oba Olakulehin further expressed disappointment in some other Mogajis and Baales who failed to honor invitations from the Land Matters Committee, warning that their continued absence could lead to the loss of their titles for undermining traditional authority.
Among those present at the meeting were Oba Abiodun Kola Daisi (Ashipa Olubadan), Oba Dauda Abiodun Azees (Ashipa Balogun), Oba Salaudeen Hamidu Ajibade (Ekerin Olubadan), Chief Isiaka Akinpelu (Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Matters), the President of the Association of Mogajis, Mogaji Ariori, as well as committee members Mogaji Adeleke Lukman and Mogaji Abdul Rasaq Akinola.
