Mercy Chinwo’s ex-manager released on N20m bail amid money laundering charges

Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, widely recognised as ThankGod or EeZeeTee and known for managing gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, has secured a N20 million bail from the Federal High Court in Lagos.

He faces accusations of illegally handling foreign exchange transactions totalling $397,106.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, who is overseeing the matter, ruled that the bail must be backed by a surety residing in Lagos who owns a property worth the same value.

EeZeeTee has 72 hours to fulfil this condition. He was previously released temporarily to his lawyer, Mr. Ojukwu Chikaosolu.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) initially filed 14 counts against the defendant, but later trimmed the charges to seven.

The EFCC accuses EeZeeTee of operating in the foreign exchange market without CBN approval.

Prosecutor Bilikisu Buhari-Bala alleged that in June 2023, ThankGod unlawfully negotiated a $52,895 exchange deal with Mr. Oladotun Olaobaju Mureke.

This act reportedly contravenes provisions of the Foreign Exchange Act and could attract penalties under Section 29(2) of the law.

ThankGod has denied all allegations. His trial will resume on June 20, 2025.

The charges also implicate his company, EeZee Global Concepts Limited. One count claims he failed to report financial transactions involving $137,383 in 2024 to the anti-money laundering unit, violating the Money Laundering Act of 2022.
