LP leadership shaken as Abure, Umar suspended over financial misconduct

Must read

The Labour Party National Caretaker Committee (LP-NCC), under the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman, has suspended factional chairman Julius Abure and secretary Farouk Umar from party activities for six months.

This decision, announced in a late Thursday statement co-signed by Senator Usman and LP-NCC Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, stems from the outcome of an internal probe into financial irregularities.

According to the statement, a disciplinary panel headed by Senator Ireti Kingibe and High Chief Peter Ameh uncovered evidence of financial malpractice and anti-party behaviour.

The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) reviewed the findings and approved the recommended sanctions.

As a result, Julius Abure has been barred from functioning or identifying as the National Chairman for the duration of the suspension.

Similarly, Farouk Umar, the former National Secretary, was implicated in unauthorised financial transactions and has also been placed on suspension for six months.

The statement also directed all members affiliated with Abure’s National Working Committee to stop functioning as party executives, warning that non-compliance with these directives would lead to stricter penalties.

The Labour Party reiterated its dedication to internal discipline, transparency, and financial accountability.
