Suspect eliminated after attacking police officers in Minna

A man was fatally subdued in Minna, Niger State, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, after he allegedly attacked police officers with a knife and cutlass during an arrest operation.

The incident happened in the Anguwan-Daji area of Chanchaga Local Government when officers from the Central Police Division responded to a distress call.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect, identified as Bello Mai-danger, reportedly interfered with an ongoing police arrest and launched a violent attack on the officers in an attempt to free a detained individual.

During the struggle, one officer was injured, and the situation escalated, prompting the officers to respond with force. The suspect was neutralised during the encounter, while a second individual was successfully arrested.

SP Abiodun stated that the officers acted to protect themselves and the public, stressing that such action became necessary due to the threat posed.

He also appealed to residents to support law enforcement efforts and provide helpful information about criminal activities in their areas.

He reassured the public of the command’s continued commitment to preserving peace and ensuring the safety of all citizens throughout the state.
