Defection drama: Gov Radda storms Reps as three PDP lawmakers join APC in Katsina

Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State made an unexpected visit to the House of Representatives on Thursday to witness the defection of three federal lawmakers from his state, who officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He entered the chamber at exactly 11:10 a.m., just in time to observe the formal declaration by the legislators.

The defecting lawmakers include Balarabe Dabai, representing Bakori/Danja; Iliyasu Abubakar, representing Batsari, Safana, and Dan-Musa; and Salisu Yusuf, representing Mashi/Dutse federal constituency.

Shortly after the governor’s arrival, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen read out letters submitted by the three lawmakers, signifying their decision to exit the PDP and join the APC.

Following the announcement, Governor Radda led the newly defected members to exchange handshakes with the speaker before departing the chamber.

According to Daily Trust, the lower chamber has recently experienced a wave of defections, mostly from opposition parties such as the Labour Party (LP) and PDP, to the APC.

Just two days earlier, six PDP lawmakers from Delta State switched allegiance to the APC, while two LP representatives from Enugu moved to the PDP.
