Anambra govt bans party uniforms ahead of President Tinubu’s visit

Political supporters in Anambra State have been directed not to wear any party-branded outfits during President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to the state, which is scheduled for Thursday.

The announcement came through a press statement issued by Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, the Special Adviser to the Anambra State Governor on Political Matters. Tinubu is slated to meet with top state stakeholders at the newly renovated Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.

Dr. Obiogbolu emphasised that the measure is intended to prevent any political competition or grandstanding that might distract from the focus of the President’s engagement.

“All attendees at the event are expected to wear plain clothes,” he stated, adding that no one should appear in APGA or any support group regalia.

Sources revealed that the ban was enforced after rival groups, notably from the APC and APGA, reportedly planned to mobilise supporters clad in party colours. The state government reportedly aims to present a united and apolitical environment for the President’s arrival.

There are concerns within the APC that the visit, if politicised, could send the wrong message about their gubernatorial candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, especially during the sensitive election season.

It was gathered that the condition to ban party uniforms was part of the agreement reached before Tinubu confirmed his participation.

President Tinubu is expected to inaugurate several major projects during his visit, including the newly constructed government house and a recreational facility named Solution Fun City.

As part of security arrangements, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) announced the deployment of 1,531 officers across the state on Wednesday.
