Troops foil massive fuel smuggling operation meant for Boko Haram

Must read

Security forces under Operation Hadin Kai have intercepted a significant fuel smuggling operation in Maiduguri, Borno State, aimed at aiding Boko Haram insurgents in Gwoza and across the Cameroonian border.

Soldiers raided Hadiza and Sadiq Filling Station where operators were caught red-handed transferring fuel into about 500 jerrycans.

Authorities described the act as a calculated betrayal against Nigeria’s national interest.

According to intelligence reports obtained by Zagazola Makama, the army had been monitoring a network of illicit fuel dealers known for disguising their activities using modified vehicles such as Volkswagen Golf cars.

These vehicles, equipped with hidden tanks, were used to ferry petrol to undisclosed locations, where it was re-packaged into jerrycans and transported to insurgent-held territories.

This time, however, the culprits were caught mid-operation. Several individuals were detained at the scene and, during initial questioning, admitted they were taking the fuel toward Pulka and areas within Cameroon.

They insisted they did not know who would ultimately receive the fuel but acknowledged that it was picked up by unknown agents from different areas.
