JUST IN: Kano senator joins APC, receives hero’s welcome in senate

Must read

Senator Samaila Kawu, representing the Kano South Senatorial District, officially announced his switch from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.

His defection was made public during a Senate plenary session in Abuja.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read aloud the letter detailing Kawu’s decision to leave the NNPP, marking the end of his affiliation with the party under which he was elected.

The moment the announcement was made, members of the APC in the upper legislative chamber burst into celebration.

APC senators left their seats to greet and congratulate Kawu, expressing their excitement over his decision to join their ranks.

The show of solidarity continued as they walked him over to a new seat among APC members, affirming his inclusion in the majority bloc.

Though Kawu did not publicly disclose his reasons for the move, the defection adds to a growing list of lawmakers realigning themselves politically.

Analysts believe this could signal shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, as party dynamics continue to evolve at the national level.
