BREAKING: Labour Party suspends Gov Otti, Key lawmakers over alleged anti-party conduct

The Labour Party (LP) has taken decisive disciplinary action by indefinitely suspending several prominent figures, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, over allegations of disloyalty to the party’s principles and internal regulations.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the party disclosed that the suspension, which takes immediate effect, follows a thorough investigation conducted by a disciplinary panel established earlier this month.

Those affected by the suspension include Senator Ireti Kingibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, Hon. Amobi Ogah, and Hon. Seyi Sowunmi.

The five-man panel, chaired by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi and supported by National Secretary Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, was tasked with probing reports of anti-party behavior.

After completing its assignment, the committee submitted its findings to the party leadership.

The National Executive Council (NEC) deliberated on the report during a meeting on May 7, 2025, and unanimously approved the suspension as recommended.

According to Alhaji Umar Farouk, the suspended individuals are now barred from representing the party in any official capacity.

Relevant institutions, including INEC and the Nigeria Governors Forum, have been informed of the development.

In a related clarification, the party addressed concerns over the absence of Nenadi Usman from the suspension list. LP stated that she was never a registered member, describing her as part of a support group rather than the party itself.

The party further criticized Usman for her past legal battles with the EFCC, challenging her to disclose the terms of her plea deal and details about her alleged asset acquisitions both locally and abroad.

LP reaffirmed its financial integrity, citing clean audit reports from INEC-certified external auditors.

The party emphasized that it has no interest in forming coalitions or merging with other political entities ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting it will contest independently.
