Another Boko Haram attack has shaken Borno State, resulting in the deaths of a Nigerian Army Captain and a soldier.
The deadly raid occurred in the Izge area of Gwoza LGA in the early hours of the morning.
Traditional leader Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta confirmed the incident, explaining that the militants arrived at about 1 a.m. and clashed with security forces stationed in the community.
He praised the collaborative response of the military, local vigilantes, and community fighters, who eliminated three of the attackers.
The fleeing terrorists left behind more than 10 motorcycles and weapons, indicating a hasty retreat.
A broader look at Nigeria’s security crisis shows a grim picture: according to SBM Intelligence, the country recorded over 2,000 deaths in Q1 2025 alone, with Borno topping the list. The toll includes civilians, security forces, bandits, and insurgents alike.
Governor Zulum has called for the adoption of non-military interventions alongside ongoing combat strategies, especially in a state that has absorbed over 300,000 former Boko Haram affiliates.
