An 18-year-old apprentice in Anambra State has reportedly impregnated 10 girls within a span of five months, a situation that has sparked public concern and drawn attention from the state’s Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.
According to the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, the young man was initially sent to learn a trade but ended up impregnating his master’s daughter and a salesgirl within three months of beginning his apprenticeship. This led to his dismissal from the program.
Obinabo revealed the development during a live video on social media, stating that the situation worsened after the boy returned to his village.
Within two months of returning home, he allegedly impregnated eight more girls.
“This case is beyond my capacity. I need advice from the public,” the commissioner said. “The boy’s mother even visited my office, saying she becomes anxious whenever a girl approaches their house.”
When asked how he was able to convince so many girls, the boy reportedly told Obinabo that he simply professed love to them and promised marriage once he becomes wealthy.
Obinabo described the situation as deeply troubling due to the boy’s age and the number of girls involved.
She did not disclose the identity of the boy, his mother, or their village, but she appealed to the public for guidance, questioning whether the issue might have spiritual undertones.
The matter has stirred widespread discussion, with many expressing concern over the social and psychological implications of the case.
