A notorious bandit kingpin, Hamisu Mopol, has been gunned down by security operatives during a shootout near the permanent site of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State.
The operation, reportedly carried out on Monday afternoon by officers from the Dutsin-Ma Police Division, was revealed in a post shared Tuesday on X (formerly Twitter) by security expert Bakatsine.
The deadly exchange is said to have occurred on the outskirts of Dutsin-Ma during a routine police patrol that encountered Mopol and members of his gang.
Hamisu Mopol, believed to be the son of Hajiya Lamiso — a woman widely suspected by locals of offering refuge to criminal groups — was confirmed dead at the scene.
“Yesterday afternoon, police in Dutsin-Ma engaged bandits near FUDMA’s permanent site. The gang leader, Hamisu Mopol, was neutralized. He’s known as the son of Hajiya Lamiso, whose home locals claim is a regular hideout for armed men,” Bakatsine posted.
At the time of this report, the Katsina State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the operation.
