Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has pledged full cooperation with security agencies to apprehend the attackers responsible for the killing of 19 local hunters during a deadly ambush.
AFRIPOST had reported the victims, who were part of a vigilance patrol from the Duguri and Gwana districts, were attacked by armed bandits near the Duguri Mansur and Dajin Madam forests in the Alkaleri Local Government Area.
The hunters were ambushed and shot at while trying to flee through Mansur village.
In a statement released on Monday by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed condemned the killings, describing them as a barbaric act meant to destabilize the state’s fragile peace.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Alkaleri, and the entire state while praying for the souls of those killed while defending their communities.
“This tragic incident underscores the ongoing threat posed by criminal elements who are determined to disturb the peace and security of our people,” the governor said.
He reassured the public of intensified collaboration with security forces to hunt down the perpetrators and promised that every necessary step would be taken to keep the state secure.
Governor Mohammed also encouraged residents to support the government’s efforts by sharing credible intelligence with the authorities to help forestall future attacks.
Following the attack, troops from the 33 Artillery Brigade, along with police and other operatives, were deployed in a joint operation to pursue the criminals and reinforce security in the region.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar tragedy in Zamfara State, where ten security operatives, including members of the state’s vigilante group, were ambushed and killed by bandits in Anka Local Government Area last month.
