20-year-old man allegedly murders father with machete

A young man, identified as Muhammad Salisu, aged 20, has been taken into custody by the police in Jigawa State for allegedly killing his father, Salisu Abubakar, with a machete.

The incident reportedly occurred in Bakin Kasuwa Quarters, Sara District of Gwaram Local Government Area around 10 a.m.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Dutse.

According to him, the suspect attacked his father, inflicting deep cuts to his shoulder, chest, and neck.

Emergency efforts were made to save the victim’s life as he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu.

Unfortunately, he was declared dead by a medical professional on duty.

Following the attack, the Divisional Police Officer in Sara swiftly led a patrol team to the scene to secure the area and transport the victim to the hospital.

The deceased’s body was later released to his family for burial rites.

DSP Adam also disclosed that the suspect has been arrested and the weapon used in the assault—a machete—has been recovered as evidence.

Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, AT Abdullahi, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for a comprehensive investigation.

While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, the police emphasized their commitment to uncovering all relevant details.

Authorities are urging members of the public who may have information related to the case to assist the investigation.

The police assured that justice would be pursued and that the suspect would be prosecuted upon conclusion of the investigation.
