The Bauchi State Police Command has strongly condemned the recent deadly ambush in Mansur village, Alkaleri Local Government Area, describing it as a serious breach of public peace and security.

Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, made this known in a statement on Monday, revealing that a full-scale investigation had been initiated to uncover those behind the attack.

The police boss ordered the deployment of tactical units to the affected area shortly after receiving a distress report from the Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters on Sunday around 9:40 a.m.

He also personally visited the scene for an assessment.

According to preliminary findings, the attack occurred around 5:40 a.m. when a joint patrol team comprising local hunters from Duguri and Gwana districts was ambushed by armed bandits while on patrol along the Duguri-Mansur-Dajin Madam forest corridor, which connects Bauchi and Plateau States.

The ambush resulted in multiple fatalities, including members of the vigilante group and civilians fleeing from Sabuwar Sara village. Several lives were lost on both sides, according to police sources.

During his visit, CP Aliyu met with community stakeholders, urging residents to stay calm, remain vigilant, and support law enforcement by providing useful information.

“We are determined to ensure those responsible for this senseless violence are identified and prosecuted. These killings are deeply troubling, and we extend our sincere condolences to the affected families,” he said.

The police commissioner reassured the public of the command’s commitment to restoring safety in the region and called for continued cooperation with ongoing security operations targeting criminal elements in the state.
