The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has shed light on the reasons behind the recent arrest of Martins Otse, better known online as VeryDarkMan, stating that the move followed numerous formal complaints lodged with the agency.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed to BBC News Pidgin on Monday that the popular social media commentator was apprehended in connection with allegations of cyberstalking.
“He was arrested to answer to several claims made by complainants,” Oyewale said. “Once he fulfils his bail requirements, he will be released. We are preparing to prosecute the case in court soon—we operate strictly within the law.”
When questioned about a possible link to Guaranty Trust Bank, Oyewale clarified that the complaints originated from various individuals and emphasized that the EFCC has an obligation to act on their behalf.
He further noted that arrangements were underway for the formal arraignment of the activist.
