NNPCL slashes petrol price amid intensifying downstream price war

Must read

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has once again reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at its retail stations.

On Saturday, according to Daily Post, NNPCL stations located along the Kubwa Expressway, Zone 4, and Gudu areas of Abuja have adjusted their fuel prices to N910 per litre, down from the previous rate of N935. This marks a N25 reduction in the price of petrol at these outlets.

The price cut has triggered a significant influx of motorists to NNPCL filling stations, as many seek to take advantage of the lower rate.

This adjustment is the latest move in the ongoing competitive pricing trend within Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, driven largely by the Dangote Refinery’s recent interventions.

Currently, MRS and other distributors affiliated with the Dangote Refinery are retailing petrol at N910 per litre.

This follows the refinery’s announcement of a reduction in its ex-depot petrol price to N835 per litre.

Subsequently, Dangote Refinery directed its distribution partners—MRS, AP (Ardova), Heyden, Optima Energy, Hyde, and Techno Oil—to offer petrol to consumers within the range of N890 to N920 per litre across Lagos, Abuja, and other major cities.

This move has stirred significant fluctuations in pricing across the sector, prompting other marketers to adjust their pump rates.

In various locations, petrol is still being sold between N930 and N950 per litre, depending on the station.

This latest NNPCL price adjustment follows a previous reduction on April 20, 2025, when the price was brought down to N935 per litre.
