CPC bloc has no plans to exit APC — Governor Sule

Must read

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has cautioned opposition parties against attempting to persuade former President Muhammadu Buhari to join any coalition aimed at unseating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

Governor Sule gave the warning on Friday in Lafia during a grand reception in honour of Labaran Magaji, the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

The event was organised by the 13 local government chairmen of the state.

There have been speculations that the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) bloc, which merged into the APC in 2013, might align with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to form an alliance against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the next general elections.

Sule dismissed such claims, stressing that Buhari remains a pillar of the APC and that he and his loyal base—including millions of followers—will not abandon the party.

“There’s no such thing as the CPC leaving the APC. Only one man speaks for the CPC, and that is Muhammadu Buhari. When he stands with someone, the CPC stands with them too,” the governor said.

He recalled a recent visit to Buhari in Kaduna where they reaffirmed their loyalty, telling him, “Baba, you are not going anywhere. We’re staying together to strengthen our political home.”

Governor Sule also praised the new SSG, who previously served as the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

He urged Magaji to maintain his integrity and dedication to duty. He commended the organisers of the reception for their show of unity.

Speaking at the event, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, praised Magaji’s contributions to legal reforms during his tenure in Nasarawa.

Malami highlighted initiatives like faster resolution of criminal cases and efforts to ease prison congestion through alternative sentencing.

He described Magaji as a model of public service and a symbol of progressive governance in the state.

The state chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Safiyanu Andaha, also lauded Magaji’s political and administrative experience.

He noted that the reception was a show of support for a committed public servant.

In his remarks, Magaji thanked attendees for their support and pledged to continue serving the state with diligence and loyalty.
