Authorities in Taraba State have apprehended three individuals believed to be involved in a notorious gang linked to kidnapping and motorcycle theft in the Takum Local Government Area.

The suspects, Abubakar Usman, Yahaya Usman, and Ali Mohammed, were arrested around 2:45 p.m. on April 30, 2025, following a joint operation by officers from the Takum Police Division and a group of local hunters.

Police spokesperson James Leshen disclosed this in a press release issued by the command.

The arrests were the result of a two-month-long investigation initiated after credible intelligence surfaced on February 20, 2025.

The tip-off described a group of young men frequently spending lavishly at brothels and hostels despite having no clear sources of income.

“Acting on the intelligence, our officers closely monitored the suspects and eventually located and detained them,” Leshen stated.

During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to abducting one Alhaji Yau Buri from Kasuwan Haske on the morning of April 20, 2025.

They allegedly collected a ransom of ₦1.5 million and made away with the victim’s motorcycle at gunpoint.

Commissioner of Police Emmanuel S. Brete praised the arresting officers for their commitment and urged residents to remain alert and continue assisting security agencies by sharing reliable information.
