More Labour Party members join PDP in Enugu

Several members of the Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State, including Mr. Dennis Agbo and Mark-Chidi Obetta, representing the Igboeze/Udenu and Igboeze South/Nsukka Federal Constituencies, respectively, officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday.

Alongside them, Mr. Malachi-Okey Onyechi, representing the Nsukka West State Constituency, also joined the PDP.

Their defections followed the earlier departure of two prominent LP figures, Prince Emeka Mamah and Titus Odo, who switched to the PDP just days after LP’s 2023 governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, made the same move.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Mamah and Odo had previously been members of the PDP before leaving the party in 2023 for the LP.

During the defection ceremony at the PDP Secretariat in Enugu, Onyechi expressed his satisfaction with rejoining the PDP, promising to contribute to the party’s progress.

He praised Governor Peter Mbah’s development efforts, particularly the N2 billion project benefiting all 260 political wards in the state.

Obetta also emphasized that his decision to rejoin the PDP was influenced by the significant development in the state, especially in sectors like transportation, education, health, and hospitality.

He said, “Enugu State will achieve even more if we all work together with Governor Mbah.”

Agbo thanked his constituents for their support, asserting that with their defection, the LP’s influence in Enugu would be significantly diminished. He expressed confidence that the opposition party would struggle to regain a foothold in the state, and he commended Governor Mbah’s visionary leadership, suggesting he deserved a second term.

The PDP Chairman in Enugu, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, welcomed the defectors, describing their return as a significant boost for the party.

He noted that the challenges faced in the 2023 elections were now behind them, and he expressed optimism that the 2027 election would be smoother.
