Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who recently resigned as Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, has revealed that he made no real contributions during his time in government, saying he was not engaged in any meaningful role.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed said that despite being appointed to provide political advice through the office of the Vice President, he was essentially idle throughout his one-and-a-half-year tenure.
“I didn’t do any advising,” he stated plainly. “I was appointed as a political adviser but wasn’t given the opportunity to function in that role.”
He further expressed disappointment at the lack of impact he was able to make, despite his readiness and capacity to serve the nation.
Baba-Ahmed also disclosed that he rejected an invitation to meet with President Tinubu.
According to him, he didn’t accept the invitation because he would have offered candid opinions that the President might not appreciate, including urging him not to seek re-election.
He also criticised both the current and previous administrations for neglecting the South-East region, saying, “For the past 10 years, nobody has shown genuine concern for the Southeast.”
Commenting on the state of the country, he noted a stark disconnect between what Tinubu’s aides claim and the reality on ground.
“There is a huge gap between what they say Nigeria is and what it really is,” he said.
