Police in Delta State have taken into custody one Ike Peter, a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, over the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old student in Ogwashi-Uku.

According to the Delta State Police Command, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ogwashi-Uku received an emergency report earlier today alleging that the suspect had entered the victim’s residence and shot him while he was studying in preparation for his examinations.

Responding swiftly to the call, the DPO and his team arrived at the scene and found the victim lying in a pool of blood.

The student was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by a medical professional. His remains have been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Following the incident, the suspect was arrested at the scene and, on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, was handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a more detailed investigation.

Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Edafe Bright stated that the Commissioner of Police has instructed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the SCID to take over the case.

“The CP has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation,” Bright said.

He also conveyed the Commissioner’s condolences to the bereaved family and the student community of the Polytechnic, urging them to maintain calm. “No stone will be left unturned. Justice will be served,” he assured.
