Police dismiss terrorism act after ammunition blasts in Borno

Must read

The Borno State Police Command has clarified that a fire outbreak, not a terrorist attack, was responsible for the explosions heard Thursday night at Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri.

The incident occurred at about 10:30 PM on April 30, 2025, and originated from the ammunition depot within the military facility.

The resulting fire caused several munitions to detonate, sparking panic among nearby residents.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the command confirmed that the situation was quickly brought under control.

“Initial assessments point to the extremely high temperatures in Maiduguri at this time of year as a likely contributing factor to the blaze,” he said.

Security operatives and fire service teams were promptly deployed to the scene and succeeded in extinguishing the flames before further escalation.

Reassuring the public, ASP Daso added, “We urge everyone to remain calm. There is no reason to panic, as the matter is fully contained.”

As of the time of reporting, no injuries or fatalities had been recorded, while investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause of the fire.
