The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has clarified that there are no irregularities in the disbursement of student loans by the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
This comes after confusion arose due to a typographical error in an earlier statement released by the anti-corruption agency.
According to a fresh release on Thursday, Demola Bakare, the ICPC’s spokesperson, explained that the agency mistakenly included the word “not” in its previous communication, which inadvertently suggested there were issues with the loan disbursement process.
This miswording, he noted, led to public misunderstanding and the false impression that NELFUND’s operations were marred by discrepancies.
Bakare emphasized that, contrary to the misinterpretation, the ICPC has found no evidence of misconduct or corruption in the distribution of the student loans.
The commission commended the transparency of the process and encouraged continued accountability in the implementation of the scheme.
The ICPC reiterated its commitment to ensuring that government programs such as the student loan initiative are free from corruption and serve the intended beneficiaries.
The clarification aims to reassure the public and stakeholders about the integrity of the student loan system managed by NELFUND.
