Security operatives from the Special Assignment Team under the Commissioner of Police have stormed two forest locations in Anambra and Delta States, identified as notorious hideouts for kidnappers.
According to Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, the joint operation ended with the killing of five individuals believed to be members of a kidnapping syndicate.
During the intense exchange of gunfire, one of the gang leaders, identified as Bello Abubakar, was killed alongside four accomplices. The police also seized three AK-47 rifles and 140 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition at the scene.
“In a renewed offensive, the CP’s special assignment unit carried out simultaneous raids in two forests, one in Anambra and another in Issele-Asagba, Delta State,” Edafe stated.
“The encounter left five suspected kidnappers dead, including Bello Abubakar, and led to the recovery of significant arms and ammunition.”
This crackdown follows the recent arrest of two individuals linked to the murder of Chigozie Udalor, a 38-year-old site engineer, in Akwukwu-Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area. Edafe explained that Udalor was killed on December 10, 2024, allegedly by four of his employees from Benue State.
