JUST IN: Court sentences Portable to three months imprisonment

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State has sentenced popular street-hop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, to three months in prison with an option of a N30,000 fine.

Portable was convicted for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

The incident leading to his arrest occurred in March 2023, when the singer physically attacked a police inspector and obstructed officers who were attempting to serve him an arrest warrant.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, told the court that Portable committed the offenses on November 18, 2022, around 11:00 a.m. at Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.

According to the charge sheet, Portable and others still at large were accused of conspiring to commit felony—specifically, assault—contrary to Section 517 of the Ogun State Criminal Code Law, 2006.

He was also charged with unlawfully assaulting one Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi by beating him, an offense punishable under Section 351 of the same law.

In addition, Portable was accused of stealing several music equipment items in 2022, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, a Studio 2 interface connection cable, and an AKG P420 condenser microphone—charges brought under Sections 383, 384, and 390 of the Ogun State Criminal Code.

Delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo found the singer guilty of Counts 1 and 2.

He sentenced him to one month’s imprisonment with an option of a N10,000 fine on Count 1, and two months’ imprisonment with an option of a N20,000 fine on Count 2.
