Fubara meets Wike in Abuja, begs for reconciliation amid political crisis

Must read

In a renewed move toward reconciliation, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara recently visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, at his Abuja residence.

Sources confirmed to DAILY POST that Fubara was accompanied by key political figures including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba.

Upon arrival, Fubara reportedly proceeded directly into Wike’s living room, a familiar setting for him, where he is said to have pleaded with the FCT Minister.

One insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the aforementioned publication, “There was a meeting, and I can confirm that.”

When asked whether the discussion resolved the emergency situation in Rivers State, the source responded, “That I can’t confirm but all I know is that there was a meeting.”

The peace effort follows a separate meeting between Fubara and President Bola Tinubu in London.

Tensions between Fubara and Wike began shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023.

To prevent the conflict from escalating, particularly after threats by Niger Delta militants to sabotage oil installations in the state, President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.

As part of the intervention, Fubara, his deputy, and the entire State House of Assembly were suspended for six months.

A Sole Administrator was subsequently appointed to oversee the state’s affairs.

Commenting on the president’s emergency declaration, Wike reportedly said he had initially pushed for Fubara’s removal, but the president’s involvement spared the embattled governor.
