FG declares May 1 public holiday to honour workers’ day

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday in celebration of this year’s Workers’ Day.

Announcing the holiday on Tuesday in Abuja, Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, highlighted the essential role of peace and stability in advancing Nigeria’s industrial and economic sectors.

His remarks were conveyed through a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerian workers for their steadfast commitment and sacrifices, noting that their efforts have been instrumental to the country’s development and the positive global image it continues to maintain.

He emphasized the value of hard work and encouraged workers to adopt innovative practices and enhance productivity in their professions.

The minister also called on the workforce to uphold excellence, contribute to good governance, and support the fair allocation of national resources.

Reaffirming the administration’s dedication to safeguarding citizens and maintaining national security, the minister expressed optimism about the country’s future.

He urged workers to remain hopeful as President Bola Tinubu’s government strives to deliver on the promises outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes to all Nigerian workers for a peaceful and joyful Workers’ Day celebration.
