Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release businesswoman and socialite Aisha Achimugu within a day.

The judge also instructed that all parties involved must return to court on May 2 to provide an update on the implementation of his ruling.

Earlier, on Monday, Justice Ekwo had ordered Achimugu to present herself to the EFCC in connection with an ongoing investigation into allegations of money laundering and related offences.

He further stated that after complying with the directive, the EFCC must bring Achimugu before the court on Wednesday, April 30, to give a report on the matter.

Achimugu was reportedly taken into custody by EFCC operatives around 5 a.m. on Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The agency is probing her involvement in a case that includes conspiracy, fraud, money laundering, corruption, and ownership of properties allegedly acquired through illicit means.

Although she had previously been interrogated and granted administrative bail, the EFCC claimed she violated the bail conditions and subsequently declared her wanted.
