Keyamo seeks Tinubu’s reelection, calls it crucial for continuation of reforms

Festus Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, has emphasized the need for President Bola Tinubu to be reelected in 2027, warning that it would be a “tragic” mistake for any new government to halt the ongoing reforms.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV on Monday, Keyamo explained that the continuation of Tinubu’s policies depends on his reelection.

He stated, “I don’t care whether it affects me or not. I don’t care whether I lose politically. What matters is that President Tinubu must be reelected.”

Keyamo also expressed his willingness to make sacrifices, such as stepping down from party leadership in Delta, to ensure the success of Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The aviation minister called on all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prioritize the president’s second term, even if it means sidelining personal ambitions.

“Every single APC member in Nigeria should focus on securing the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, regardless of their personal interests. He needs a second term to complete these reforms,” Keyamo said.

His comments come amid critical reports from international organizations.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has highlighted continued challenges such as high poverty levels and food inflation during Tinubu’s presidency.

Additionally, the World Bank’s Africa Pulse report for April 2025 indicated that Nigeria has the highest number of extremely poor people globally and warned that poverty could worsen by 2027 under Tinubu’s leadership.
