A Federal High Court in Abuja has admitted a video recording of Nnamdi Kanu’s interrogation by the Department of State Services (DSS) as evidence in his ongoing trial.
The court also heard a statement Kanu made on October 15, 2015, in which he confirmed establishing Radio Biafra and registering it in London. He said the station was not registered with Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) because he saw no need for it.
Kanu explained that his actions were aimed at advocating for the liberation of the South East, South South, and some parts of Benue and Kogi. He emphasized in his statement that freedom fighting is not a crime, stating it is a fundamental human right both in Nigeria and globally.
He also denied any involvement in violence, maintaining that no evidence has linked him to any violent acts.
In addition to the video and statement, four suitcases retrieved from his hotel room in 2015 were presented in court. The items contained in them were displayed as part of the prosecution’s evidence.
Kanu’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), did not object when the prosecuting lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), sought to admit the items as evidence.
Presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, approved the request and formally admitted the video and the suitcase items as part of the case record.
