Concerns have emerged among the children of iconic juju musician, Sunday Adegeye, popularly known as King Sunny Ade (KSA), as a disagreement brews over his current condition and location.
One of his daughters, Damilola Esther, recently took to social media, accusing her stepbrother, Dayo, of isolating their father and mismanaging his professional engagements. She claimed that Dayo, who she referred to as KSA’s manager, has been booking shows without fulfilling them and has allegedly been withholding access to the music legend.
In one of her posts, she wrote, “Dad told my brother he wants to go home. Where is he? Where are his phones? He hasn’t been online or picking his calls. Where is he?”
She further demanded Dayo’s arrest, alleging theft and warning that he might flee the country using his UK visa.
However, speaking to The PUNCH, Dayo denied all allegations and insisted that their father was in good health and still actively performing.
He clarified that while he assists KSA with certain responsibilities, he is not officially employed as his manager.
“The allegations are false,” Dayo said. “Just this past Saturday (April 26, 2025), he performed at a fan’s 60th birthday celebration in Victoria Island, Lagos. He also rehearsed with his band last week and is scheduled to perform in Akure on May 1.”
Dayo added that Damilola, who resides outside Nigeria, had recently spoken to their father via phone during Easter, and he had even encouraged her to visit if she was concerned.
“She crossed the line when she started making disrespectful remarks about our father online,” he said. “You don’t speak ill of him and expect me to stay quiet.”
Dayo also revealed that King Sunny Ade would soon issue a public statement to address the situation and dispel rumors.
“I’m not on his payroll. I just stepped in to help because he needed someone to handle a few things. He’s happy with the support I’ve given, and he asked me to continue. This is me giving back to someone who has done so much for me,” he explained.
Another son, David, also dismissed Damilola’s claims, affirming that their father is doing well. “He’s not under any pressure. He just finished performing at an event. I have evidence that he is fine,” he stated.
Adding another layer to the story, journalist Olawale Olaleye shared on social media that Damilola had reached out to him, raising concerns that KSA had become unreachable. Olaleye mentioned that others close to the musician also found it difficult to get in contact with him.
He wrote, “Curiously, those who could previously reach KSA with a single call can no longer do so. That’s when I gave up and returned to my regular hustle.”
