BREAKING: NNPC sacks key allies of Mele Kyari in sweeping management shake-up

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has launched a major overhaul of its leadership structure, resulting in the dismissal of several top officials closely associated with former Group CEO Mele Kyari, who was relieved of his position earlier this month.

Among the executives affected are Bala Wunti, former head of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS); Ibrahim Onoja, managing director of the Kaduna Refinery; and Lawal Sade, chief compliance officer and former MD of NNPC Trading. The trio were widely regarded as Kyari’s trusted associates.

According to reports by TheCable, the shake-up has impacted over 200 employees across various levels, signalling the start of broader internal reforms within the national oil firm.

As part of the restructuring, there has also been a notable shift toward gender inclusion in leadership.

Maryam Idrisu has been appointed managing director of NNPC Trading, putting her in charge of all crude oil transactions.

In addition, Obioma Abangwu has been named chief liaison officer for board affairs.
