Thousands of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s supporters have gathered at the Cenotaph in Asaba, Delta State, ahead of his formal defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prominent political figures from both national and state levels, along with party representatives, have already taken their seats at the venue in anticipation of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s arrival, as he is set to attend the event.
The energy around the Cenotaph is palpable, with Governor Oborevwori’s loyalists—who are transitioning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC—voicing their support with chants like, “We are all BATified and Sherrified” and “Anywhere Sheriff goes, we follow.”
As the political event unfolds, local traders are benefiting from the occasion, experiencing a surge in sales of APC-themed merchandise, including bangles, hats, mufflers, shirts, flags, and stickers along the road leading to the venue.
