The Oyo State Police Command has dismantled a human trafficking operation in Ibadan, the state capital.
Officers raided a building in the Orogun area, where they rescued 83 adults and one child who were reportedly being held against their will.
Initial findings indicate that the victims, who are believed to be citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo, were deceived into coming to Nigeria with promises of job opportunities.
Authorities also revealed that the traffickers allegedly extorted large amounts of money said to be in U.S. dollars from the victims’ families as part of the scheme.
The rescued individuals have been moved to the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, where investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the operation.
