Pope Francis has been buried at his beloved Santa Maria Maggiore basilica in Rome, following a funeral mass held earlier in St. Peter’s Square, the Vatican announced on Saturday.
The 88-year-old Argentinian pontiff, who passed away on Monday, was laid to rest during a brief 30-minute ceremony that began at 1:00 p.m. (1100 GMT) at the historic church in the Italian capital.
