Family petitions Lagos police over missing son allegedly arrested in Mile 12

The family of Osas Azenabor, a 40-year-old man allegedly arrested by police officers on November 1, 2024, in the Mile 12 area of Lagos, has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, seeking urgent action to uncover his whereabouts.

According to the family, Osas was reportedly taken to the Ketu Police Station following a raid in the area and has not been seen since.

His father, Francis Azenabor, told Saturday PUNCH that all efforts to trace his son have been unsuccessful, prompting them to seek legal redress.

In a petition submitted by the family’s lawyer, Saidi Sanni, the family called for a full investigation into Osas’s disappearance and demanded his immediate release.

“We are compelled to write you on this serious matter concerning the unlawful arrest and disappearance of our client by officers from the Ketu Divisional Police Station, Ketu/Mile 12, Lagos, on November 1, 2024,” the petition read in part.

The family also alleged that repeated visits to the police station yielded no answers. According to the petition, they were often met with harassment, and Osas’s younger brother was allegedly assaulted during one of the visits.

“We strongly urge you to summon the Divisional Police Officer in charge as of the date of the arrest, along with all officers involved, to account for our client. We request his immediate release and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his detention and continued disappearance,” the petition added.

Attempts to get a response from the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to his phone went unanswered as of the time of filing this report.
