Kano traffic officer killed after being thrown out of moving truck

A traffic enforcement officer with the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has died after allegedly being ejected from a moving truck during a night patrol operation in Kano on Thursday, April 24.

The victim, identified as Yahaya Isma’il Idris, 35, was on duty along Maiduguri Road when the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m.

Sources say he had intercepted a goods-laden truck with registration number BWR 457 XC for routine checks.

The truck was being driven by Yakubu Abdulsalam, a 25-year-old man from Yobe State, accompanied by two passengers—Tunde Momodu, 31, and Sagir Yusuf, 21.

Upon being unable to produce the required documentation for the goods, Idris entered the truck to investigate.

In a disturbing twist, the driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene with Idris inside the vehicle.

When the truck neared the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange flyover, the officer was reportedly pushed out of the moving vehicle.

Idris was immediately taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he later died from the injuries he sustained.

Police authorities have confirmed the arrest of the driver and his two companions.

An investigation is currently in progress to determine the precise events that led to the officer’s death.
