IPOB militants torch vigilante base in Anambra, destroy vehicles

In the early hours of April 25, 2025, unidentified gunmen believed to be members of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), launched an attack on a local vigilante office in Amesi, located in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The assault, which took place around 2:20 a.m., was directed at the sector command base of the Agunechenba Vigilante group.

According to the vigilante commander, the attackers set ablaze four patrol vans and two motorcycles before making their escape.

Security operatives from the Joint Task Force (JTF) responded swiftly after receiving the alert, but the perpetrators had already fled the area by the time they arrived.

Currently, a coordinated search operation is ongoing in the surrounding bushland as police-led JTF teams continue efforts to track down and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
