Gov Alia assures corps members of safety amid insecurity in Benue

Must read

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has given assurances of safety to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the state, amid concerns over insecurity in the region.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Youth, Sports Development and Creativity, Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange, on Friday, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to protecting all corps members serving across the state.

Acknowledging the widespread security issues affecting the nation, including Benue, the governor urged corps members not to be discouraged.

“We recognise the security concerns facing the country and the state, but I want to assure you that we have taken concrete steps—together with security agencies—to ensure that all corps members are safe during their stay here,” he said.

He noted that comprehensive security measures have been implemented in areas and lodges housing corps members to guarantee their protection throughout the service year.

Governor Alia also encouraged the corps members to take full advantage of the NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a valuable tool for personal growth and national development.

He advised them to apply their talents and skills toward building a better future for the country.

During the event, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Veronica Garba, thanked the state government and the people of Benue for their continued support.

She also urged the new corps members to engage actively in the four key components of the orientation course: physical training, lectures, sporting events, and the SAED initiative.

Justice Peter Ukande, representing the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Maurice Ikpambeae, formally inducted 1,600 corps members into the NYSC orientation course.
