A devastating accident has claimed the lives of four young footballers from the Lebwit Football Academy in Plateau State.
The incident occurred along the Kwanan Maciji-Pankshin-Kanke road on Wednesday, April 23, 2024.
The players who lost their lives have been identified as Shikritda Goma, Chapbe Gontur, Nenyitwe Gopar, and Dargak Caleb.
According to Habila Hosea Mutla, manager of Plateau University FC, several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Pankshin.
Speaking to Daily Trust, Mutla expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the event as disheartening. “It’s truly painful to see young talents perish in such circumstances,” he said.
The accident reportedly happened as the players were returning to Kanke after participating in a friendly match in Pankshin.
The football community and local residents have been left in mourning following the tragic loss of these promising athletes.
