Again Rivers administrator fails to honour House Committee invitation

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has again failed to appear before the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee overseeing affairs in the state, despite being scheduled for an interactive session.

The committee, formed by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas on April 15, 2025, had initially planned to meet with Ibas on April 17. That meeting was later rescheduled to April 24 at Ibas’s own request. However, he was absent once more.

The session was intended to review developments in Rivers State since Ibas took over as administrator.

Although reports indicate he was in Abuja for a National Economic Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, he did not attend the committee’s engagement at the National Assembly.

It remains uncertain whether a formal summons was successfully delivered or acknowledged, as the committee has not disclosed the nature of its correspondence with the administrator.

Following Ibas’s no-show, Committee Chairman Rep. Julius Ihonvbere and other members left Committee Room 301 without addressing the media.

When approached by journalists on Thursday, Ihonvbere simply responded, “No comment.”

With the situation unresolved, the committee has postponed the session with the Rivers State administrator indefinitely.
