Wike commends Okowa for backing Tinubu, encourages more Nigerians to follow suit

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has praised former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for publicly declaring his support for President Bola Tinubu.

The commendation was made in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

Okowa, who served as the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and other top PDP members.

The defection effectively shifted the PDP’s political structure in Delta State to the ruling APC.

Wike described the move as a strong endorsement of President Tinubu’s leadership and dedication to national progress.

He encouraged other Nigerians who have yet to take a clear political stand to support the president.

He noted that the decision by Okowa and Oborevwori to openly back Tinubu confirms the stance he took ahead of the 2023 elections, which, according to him, was driven by the vision of a united Nigeria.

“I commend Okowa and Governor Oborevwori for this bold and timely step. It shows they have recognized the president’s efforts in promoting unity and national development,” Wike stated.

He added that the support comes at a time when the Niger Delta stands to gain more from the federal government’s agenda, and expressed satisfaction that others are now aligning with the “Renewed Hope” initiative.
